Matteo and Josephine
Matteo and Josephine’s wedding was incredibly special to me. Matteo is my not-so-little brother, and I’ve known Josephine for nearly ten years. We worked together at Ivanhoe Cheese for years before she and my brother started dating, and over time they became not only family, but a huge part of my journey as a photographer. They’ve been my models more times than I can count and have played such an important role in helping me grow both my craft and my business. When they asked me to photograph their wedding, I definitely cried happy tears.
The day began at my parents’ backyard, where we spent the morning setting everything up before heading to the Airbnb for the girls to get ready. I stayed behind a little longer to finish the setup, then made my way over to capture those quiet, meaningful getting-ready moments, knowing just how much this day meant to all of us.
First Looks
We headed back to the house to capture the first looks, first between Josie and her dad, and then Josie and Matteo. Little did Matteo know, we had a surprise planned just for him. Our brother Nick slipped into my wedding dress and surprised Matteo with his own private first look. What followed was a lot of screaming, uncontrollable laughter, and a bit of acorn throwing. It was the perfect lighthearted moment and such a fun reminder of the joy and personality that surrounded their day.
In all seriousness, the first look and private vows between Matteo and Josie were incredibly beautiful. I did my best to stay back and give them the space they deserved, because this moment was truly just for the two of them. It was quiet, emotional, and deeply meaningful, one of those moments where you simply witness love unfolding, rather than directing it.
Couple photos at Ivanhoe Cheese
Now Josie requested that we go to Ivanhoe Cheese to take some photos there since that is where Matteo and Josie met so we made it happen. We took some fun photos there. Some outside the factory and then went inside where they allowed us to scoop some ice cream (Josies favourite thing to do) and then enjoy it outside for a brief moment before having to get back for the ceremony. It was the perfect mix of nostalgia, joy, and the little details that made their day so uniquely them.
The Ceremony
The ceremony was absolutely beautiful, with the fall leaves creating the most perfect backdrop. Watching the little girls walk down the aisle was pure magic and definitely brought a few tears to my eyes. The ceremony itself was short but deeply meaningful, so sincere and true to who Matteo and Josie are. As they walked back up the aisle, it was nothing short of a celebration of love, joy, and happiness.
The Bridal Party
This group was so much fun to photograph. Even with limited time, we were able to capture a photo that truly reflected everyone’s personalities, something I always aim to do with bridal parties. It’s not just about getting everyone in the frame, but about preserving the energy, connection, and joy they bring to the day.
The Couple
After everyone headed off to enjoy dinner, I stole Matteo and Josie away for a few quiet moments as the sun began to set. We captured a few more photos together in that soft, golden light. These two truly bring so much joy to my heart. Watching them walk through life separately and now side by side has been such a gift. Josie is the perfect addition to our family, and I’m so grateful they found, and chose, each other.
The Reception
And then the party truly began! We’re so grateful to Campbellford Sharpes for the incredible food and to Dom’s Cakery for the absolutely amazing cake. With full hearts and happy bellies, everyone spent the rest of the night laughing, celebrating, and dancing the night away.
